LASIK Surgery  Lloydminster

Is LASIK is Right For You?

Do you find glasses or contact lenses inconvenient or too costly? Do you want to try and stop wearing them in the future? If so, you should consider having vision surgery in Lloydminster! Dr. Jade and Dr. Sarah provide pre- and post-procedure consultations for patients undergoing LASIK laser eye surgery, which is used to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatisms. This type of refractive surgery can help people lower their prescriptions or eliminate their need for corrective eyewear altogether. Many patients only have to wear glasses for night driving after LASIK.

The LASIK procedure. Here’s how it works

The LASIK Procedure

=

Your eye surgeon will use a surgical tool to create a circular flap in your cornea

=

The flap will be folded back in order to reach the underlying cornea, or the stroma

=

Corneal tissue will be removed using short-wave ultraviolet light from an excimer laser

=

Your cornea will be reshaped so it focuses light onto your retina more accurately; nearsighted people require a flatter cornea, while farsighted people need a steeper one

=

If you have astigmatism, the cornea can be reshaped to correct it

=

Once the cornea is corrected, the flap is put back in place so it can heal

You won’t need to have any bandages or stitches, and you won’t be placed under anesthesia – numbing eye drops are used instead. The procedure is performed on each eye separately, and each one takes around 5 minutes or so.

A procedure called PRK is another option for some patients. Like LASIK, it reshapes the cornea, but in this surgery, the thin outer layer of the cornea is completely removed for better access to the corneal tissue. This tissue will repair itself within a few days, and the overall healing process is slower. Patients with thinner corneas or who have undergone LASIK in the past are prime candidates for this procedure.
